Toyota navigation update 201511/9/2022 So, apparently, we are now required to stop the car and turn the engine off before we can determine where we want to eat at a place we may have never been to before!!!! It stated that additional restaurants could be seen only when the car was no longer moving. In addition, when we were trying to find a restaurant at our destination, it would only list about 7 or so restaurants. My wife was driving and so I could have easily done so without any safety issues. I can see that the voice recognition system is going to take a lot of getting used to.īut, my biggest complaint is that the navigation system will not allow you to enter new addresses unless the car is in accessory mode (the engine is turned off). I don't understand why the directions would not tell you to do that to begin with. Finally, we got the system to understand the destination by first stating the city and state, and then stating the street and street number. (We don't have any accents and we had trained the system earlier in the week.) The system had all sorts of problems. While the instruction indicate that you should say the entire address as above, the system was unable to figure it out. It literally took us 30 minutes for the system to recognize the address: 1 Grand Avenue, San Luis Obispo, California. Well, the voice recognition system was something we weren't very excited about when we first tried to use it to make calls a couple of days earlier. We were told that the voice recognition system could be used to enter a destination (but not other addresses for future use). In fact, I don't think you can do it while its in park either. I couldn't figure out how so I called up the dealership and found out that we can't do so while the vehicle is driving. My wife was driving so I thought I would take our old Garmin and program in a few addresses into the new 2015 navigation system. While the navigation system itself seems to be ok (it didn't send us the wrong way or anything), the design of the user interface really is horrible (at least when compared to the Garmin). This weekend we took our first road trip with the 2015. Otherwise, we would have been happy with a simple LE with no options. The only features of the XLE we were interested in were the Navigation system and the moon roof. Now, it only comes with the XLE or above. When we purchased the 2005 the moon roof was an option. We used to use a Garmin with the 2005 Highlander. It applies to the new (2015) 6" HD display system used in several models, built by Panasonic.We just purchased a 2015 Highlander to replace our 2005 Highlander that was totaled. But I couldn't find the same problem in other threads in this forum. It appears to have the same problem as mentioned in this thread. Listed below is an excerpt from a thread on PriusChat that referenced a Toyota Service Bulletin that I showed my dealer. You can find out about the problem at PriusChat. Eventually it was replaced under the warranty at no charge. The problem was with the Panasonic head unit (basically the entire radio/navigation system. The dealership tried to fix it with a software update, but it didn't work. The only way to get it to reset was either to kill the engine and restart or hold down on the on/off button and let it reboot. When that happened you couldn't switch to another function, (switch from AM to FM or XM, or to phone or navigation). The radio/navigation system display would intermittently freeze up. I'm not sure if this is related to your problem or not, but I had a problem with the 2015 Prius v that I bought in May. Sounds like I need to check on the recall situation ASAP. This has been extended to 15 years and no limit on mileage. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-88 (TTY 1-80), or go to Home | Safercar - National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall is expected to begin in late August 2014. If this occurs, various warning lamps will be illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle will have reduced power allowing it to only drive a short distance. In the affected vehicles, the Intelligent Power Module (IPM) inside the inverter module (a component of the hybrid system) contains transistors that may become damaged from high operating temperatures. Toyota is recalling certain model year 2010 through 2014 Prius vehicles. Important: Check to see if this was done on your vehicle (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V053000). Update it yourself, ebay sells the disc for $35.00. Keep contacting Toyota and then open up a claim against this dealership.Ģ.
